South Beach Parking Guide: Where to Park & What It Costs

South Beach parking becomes much easier when you choose a destination and a backup garage before arriving. For a longer visit, I would usually compare municipal garages first. For a quick stop, a legal street space may be worth the convenience.

The key is understanding what you’re paying for. Street meters, municipal surface lots, city garages, private facilities, and hotel valet parking can have different prices and conditions—even when they are close together.

This South Beach parking guide covers useful garage locations, published city rates, payment options, and the details that can change your final bill.

The rates below are standard published prices checked in September 2026. Confirm the entrance sign or payment screen when you arrive, especially during events. South Beach is in the City of Miami Beach, whose parking arrangements differ from those on the Miami mainland.

How Much Does South Beach Parking Cost?

The city currently publishes standard visitor rates of $4 per hour for on-street parking and $2 per hour for municipal off-street metered parking in its South Beach and Entertainment District zones. Time limits vary by location.

The Entertainment District—generally Ocean Drive to Pennsylvania Avenue between 5th and 15th streets, including Washington Avenue—has 24-hour meter enforcement. The broader South Beach zone lists enforcement from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. Check the official meter rates and zone descriptions alongside the signs at your space.

At those standard rates, two hours would cost $8 on the street or $4 in a municipal metered lot, before any applicable app fees. That comparison only works where the posted time limit permits your stay.

My preference would be to spend a minute checking the operator and restrictions rather than assume every lot follows the city’s prices.

Useful Public Garages in South Beach

These municipal garages provide practical starting points for planning. The “useful for” column is my suggestion based on location; check the walk to your exact destination.

16th Street1557 Washington AvenueEspañola Way and nearby dining
17th Street640 17th StreetLincoln Road
Pennsylvania Avenue1661 Pennsylvania AvenueLincoln Road and nearby venues

The city’s standard schedules list $20 maximum daily rates at these garages. The 7th, 12th, and 13th Street schedules show $2 for up to one hour, $8 for three to four hours, and $12 for seven to eight hours.

The 16th Street schedule differs: three to six hours costs $10. Weekend or event flat rates can replace the usual calculation. Consult the official municipal garage rate tables before choosing.

I would save two garage locations, not just one. If your first choice is full, having a second destination ready is better than circling while trying to read signs.

Where I Would Park for Different Outings

Park once and explore nearby sights. See our Miami Beach Art Deco Segway tour listing.

Ocean Drive or a Beach Afternoon

I would start by comparing the 7th, 12th, and 13th Street garages, then choose according to where I expect to finish the day.

A slightly longer walk at arrival may be worthwhile if the car is closer to your dinner reservation afterward. With children, beach equipment, or mobility needs, the walking route may matter more than a small price difference.

Check where the pedestrian exit is before leaving the garage. The vehicle entrance may not be the easiest way back on foot.

Lincoln Road Shopping or Dinner

The 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue garages are useful candidates to investigate.

I would choose based on the particular end of Lincoln Road I’m visiting rather than the name alone. Save the garage entrance, photograph your floor or section, and allow time to retrieve the car before any later reservation.

South Pointe Park

For South Pointe Park, compare parking near the park with a garage farther north. Don’t assume the cheapest-looking option is the best choice once you account for the return walk.

My decision would depend on how much I’m carrying and whether the outing includes other South Beach stops. For a relaxed park visit, repeated driving between nearby activities can add unnecessary expense.

Browse our things to do in Miami directory to find nearby outings. Check admission and transportation costs separately.

Street Parking or a Garage?

Street parking works best when you find a legal space near a short, clearly timed activity. A garage is often more practical when your departure time is uncertain.

Before paying at the curb, read every relevant sign. Confirm the space is public, the time limit covers your visit, and no loading or residential restriction applies during your stay.

I would not plan a long beach afternoon around repeatedly extending a meter. An app’s extension feature does not override a posted maximum stay.

For garages, inspect the entrance information before committing. Check the rate in effect, clearance height, accepted payment method, and any event notice. If driving a tall rental vehicle or carrying rooftop equipment, confirm clearance before entering.

The best option is the one that fits your entire outing—not simply the lowest hourly number.

How to Pay for Parking in South Beach

Miami Beach lists ParkMobile and PayByPhone as parking payment options. Follow the signs at the specific space or facility to determine the correct payment process. The city’s parking-app page links to both services.

Before starting a session:

  • Match the location number to the sign where you parked.
  • Select the correct vehicle and license plate.
  • Check the duration and total charge.
  • Confirm the session is active before walking away.
  • Save the receipt and set a reminder.

The license-plate step is especially important with a rental car. Your app may still have your vehicle from home selected.

ParkMobile notes that transaction fees can be added to parking charges, depending on membership and payment method. Review its Miami Beach payment guidance and the checkout total.

At a ticketed garage, follow that facility’s instructions. Don’t assume that starting a separate street-parking session pays your garage ticket.

Overnight Parking: What to Confirm

Planning an overnight stay? Compare the location in our Savoy Hotel & Beach Club listing and confirm parking directly with the hotel.

For an overnight stay, I would compare the hotel’s complete parking offer with a nearby public garage before booking.

Ask the hotel whether its quoted price includes taxes, whether valet is mandatory, and whether you can leave and return without another charge. Also ask how much notice is needed to retrieve the vehicle.

For a public garage, confirm:

  • Whether your intended overnight or multiday stay is permitted.
  • How charges accumulate beyond the first day.
  • Whether exiting and returning starts a new charge.
  • When you can access the car and pedestrian entrances.

A daily maximum is not automatically a multiday storage agreement or an unlimited re-entry pass.

The city’s parking FAQ states that vehicle storage on public property is not allowed. If you plan to leave a car while taking a cruise or another extended trip, obtain explicit guidance rather than treating a short-stay garage as long-term storage.

Compare locations in our Miami hotel directory and Ritz-Carlton South Beach listing. Ask each hotel for its current parking terms.

What Visitor Reviews Reveal About Parking

Visitor reviews are useful for spotting questions to ask, but I would use official information for rates.

A May 2025 Google-attributed Ocean Five Hotel review described a positive stay but criticized the cost of adjacent parking and recommended considering the 7th Street garage. The account is reproduced in Ocean Five’s guest reviews. Its quoted price is historical, not a current hotel parking quote.

At Miami Beach Botanical Garden, February 2026 Google-attributed feedback included both praise for the garden and a negative review from someone who felt their parking expense was excessive for a short visit. See the garden’s visitor reviews.

These individual experiences point to a useful habit: check the parking arrangement before deciding whether an outing is inexpensive. “Free admission” and “cheap afternoon” are not necessarily the same thing.

Weekend Rates, Events, and Old Promotions

A garage that looks economical for a short weekday stop may use a flat rate during another period.

The city lists a $15 weekend/event flat rate from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at several garages, including 7th, 12th, 13th, and 16th Street. Other facilities list their own event arrangements.

I would photograph the entrance rate board if the pricing needs clarification, then ask before parking rather than dispute an assumption afterward.

Be equally careful with promotional search results. The city’s summer parking discount page describes a promotion running July through October 2025. That does not establish a discount for your current visit.

Check the year, eligible locations, required app, and session limits whenever you see an unusually low advertised price.

Is There Free Parking in South Beach?

Some limited arrangements exist, but I would not build a full sightseeing day around finding unrestricted free parking.

The published 5th & Alton garage schedule, at 550 Lenox Avenue, lists the first two hours free under its standard schedule, with separate overnight/event pricing. Confirm the conditions on arrival.

For other spaces, an empty curb or the absence of nearby payment equipment does not prove parking is free. Read the signs, including restrictions that begin later.

I would also avoid driving a long distance solely to save a small amount. Fuel, time, and an inconvenient walk can erase the benefit.

Avoid the Most Common Parking Mistakes

Before leaving your car, check the plate number, payment confirmation, restrictions, and expiration time. Photograph your location and keep valuables out of sight.

If equipment fails, seek an accepted alternative or assistance rather than assume parking becomes free. The city’s parking FAQ explains how to report broken meters and pay stations.

If your car is missing, the Miami Beach parking portal includes a towed-vehicle lookup. Rental-car drivers should also contact their rental company for retrieval instructions.

For a straightforward day, my approach would be to park once near the main activity and group nearby stops together.

South Beach Parking FAQs

Is a public garage cheaper than street parking?

Often, particularly for longer visits under standard pricing. Compare the total for your expected duration, including event rates and app fees.

Is street parking free at night?

Not everywhere. The Entertainment District has 24-hour meter enforcement, and other spaces may have overnight restrictions. Check the specific sign.

Does hotel parking include unlimited re-entry?

That depends on the hotel’s policy. Ask explicitly before comparing its rate with a public garage.

Should I bring a car to South Beach?

Consider your full itinerary. If most plans are nearby, compare transportation costs with rental and parking expenses. If you need the car for regional outings, choose accommodation with parking arrangements you understand before arrival.
